TMS president diagnosed with cancer (AP)

Texas Motor Speedway president Eddie Gossage has been diagnosed with cancer and has been undergoing treatment in recent months. The disclosure came Wednesday in a statement issued by Speedway spokesman Mike Zizzo. Gossage has been president of Texas Motor Speedway since its opening in 1997. Zizzo says doctors diagnosed Gossage with cancer last fall and began treatment around the Samsung 500 in April…

NASCAR Hall of Fame taking shape before May debut (AP)

A banked 'track' to hold a series of cars is shown as work continues on the NASCAR Hall of Fame under construction in Charlotte, N.C., Tuesday, July 14, 2009. With the opening nearly 10 months away, you still have to dodge the machinery and scaffolding, hopscotch the sticky red clay and block out the constant noise of drilling as you visit the site. But the outer shell is complete and ready to house NASCAR's long-awaited celebration of its past.

The sun reflecting off the silver dome draws your eyes as you approach downtown Charlotte. Designed to look like sheet metal from a stock car but in the shape of an oval racetrack, it’s the signature element of the NASCAR Hall of Fame.
